Hiller found himself on administrative leave at West Frankfort High School after he barred a transgender boy from using the boys’ locker room. He took the initiative to report the incident to school leadership, as he wasn’t willing to compromise his values as a responsible educator. “It’s not safe for anybody,” Hiller explained to Sheronna Bishop. “This is not against this particular student, I feel for this student, and I do believe there needs to be protections for that student. It’s just not in the boys’ locker room.”

Who’s to say that this transgender boy won’t change his mind later on? “What happens when they change their mind and my son is the one in the locker room with a child who’s now decided they’re a girl again?” Smith questioned.
