Outraged passengers witness a pregnant mother forced to kneel and clean up her child’s spilled popcorn during a flight, sparking an online uproar.
Renowned singer Jessie James Decker, 35, has expressed her anger and disbelief towards United Airlines after the airline compelled her pregnant sister to clean up after her child like an animal. The incident occurred when her young niece accidentally spilled popcorn on the floor during a flight.
Decker shared her dismay with her followers on social media after learning how her sister had to awkwardly bend her pregnant body to clean up the mess while on board a United Airlines flight.
In an Instagram Stories post, Decker condemned the airline for their treatment of her sister, Sydney Rae Bass. Sydney and her husband, Anthony Bass, a pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, had earlier voiced their complaints on social media about the flight crew’s unreasonable demands. The crew forced Sydney, a pregnant mother, to get down on her hands and knees to pick up the spilled popcorn, despite her husband being present to help.
Decker wrote in her Instagram Stories post that has since disappeared, “@sydneyraebass just texted me from her flight on @united. As you know, she is five months pregnant, high risk, and also traveling alone with her two small children.”
She added that the popcorn spill occurred in the aisle of the moving plane. Sydney shares daughter Brooklyn, five, with Anthony, and they also adopted Blaire, the younger child, in 2020. It was Blaire who spilled her popcorn during the flight.
In her now-deleted social media post, Jessie James Decker reported that a flight attendant approached Sydney with a trash bag and a wet wipe, stating the captain wanted her to clean up every last bit of popcorn. Decker revealed that her sister had no choice but to get on her hands and knees, an ordeal that left her in tears. She sarcastically added, “Way to go, United.”
Decker continued to discuss the issue in another post, saying, “Grabbed my sis and the popcorn hazard. Yes, that’s what the flight attendant told my sister, the popcorn in the aisle is a safety hazard.” In a subsequent video, Decker questioned Sydney about the details of the popcorn incident on the plane. She expressed confusion about why popcorn was even offered on planes if it posed such a hazard.
The situation initially gained attention when Anthony Bass posted about the incident on Instagram, stating, “The flight attendant at United just made my twenty-two-week pregnant wife traveling with a five-year-old and two-year-old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter. Are you kidding me?”
The following day, Sydney shared a lighthearted photo of Blaire holding a bag of popcorn with a big smile on her face, captioning it “The popcorn hazard” in reference to the previous day’s events.
