Some Democrats are under increasing pressure to pack the Supreme Court again. The court bounced back this week after hearing oral arguments in the Mississippi 15-week abortion ban case, which is expected to restrict abortion access across the country.
After the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg — the court is now made up of six conservative justices and three liberals, and the liberals are not very happy about it.
On Wednesday, the court heard arguments in the Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, and legal analysts suggested that the conservative majority would overturn the decades-old paradigm of following the landmark judgment imposing limited government restrictions on abortion, following Roy v. Wade.
If that happens, it will open the door for state legislatures to pass legislation banning abortion before fetal viability.
According to Fox News:
“As a result, Democratic lawmakers have called to remove the Senate filibuster requiring 60 votes to pass legislation to add more seats to the court,”
“A ‘conservative’ court would uphold precedent. But a ‘partisan’ court may not — and this may be the most partisan court in history, we must protect a woman’s right to choose,” Rep. Adam Schiff said of the demands to pack the court. “
Also, Senator Tina Smith called for packing the court.
“What’s happening today is the Supreme Court is hearing arguments for ending Roe and people’s freedom to get an abortion,” Smith tweeted.

Rep. Judy Chu urged Congress to pass the Judiciary Act, which would allow them to expand the number of judges to 13.
Thanks to Republican court packing, our Supreme Court has been manipulated to protect GOP political goals, not our Constitution.

Sen. Edward J. Markey also tweeted after oral arguments, “9 is not a magic number … We have to talk about expanding the Court now. #ExpandTheCourt”
