Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada demonstrated to law-abiding gun owners in his country that he is willing to become a tyrant in a teapot in order to seize firearms.
When truckers arrived on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario, to protest the country’s severe COVID-19 vaccine requirements for border crossing and other restrictions, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked Canada’s Emergency Act. The demonstrators, known as the “Freedom Convoy,” shut down the area outside of Canada’s Parliament and critical commercial routes into the United States.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hid in an “undisclosed location” and later referred to his fellow citizens as “Nazis,” instead of meeting with protest organizers to hear their complaints. His unprecedented use of the Emergencies Act, which he invoked without Parliament’s approval or court order, allowed him to trample on Canadians’ rights for 30 days. It was the first occasion since the act’s passage in 1988 that it was used.
In essence, he reduced his countrymen to subjects. Worse, he revealed that there is no strategy he will not use to advance his agenda. That’s a worrying indicator, given that gun confiscation is on the horizon for Canadians.

Canada on Monday introduced new gun-control legislation that, if passed, would implement a “national freeze” on buying, importing, transferring and selling handguns, effectively capping the number of such weapons already in the country. The bill, which officials here cast as “the most significant action on gun violence in a generation,” also includes “red flag” laws that would allow judges to temporarily remove firearms from people deemed to be a danger to themselves or others and stiffer penalties for gun smuggling and trafficking. “We recognize that the vast majority of gun owners in this country are responsible and follow all necessary laws,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters in Ottawa. “We are, however, facing a level of gun violence in our communities that is unacceptable.”
“Unfortunately, the reality is in our country [gun violence] is getting worse and has been getting worse over the past years,” Trudeau said. “We need only look south of the border to know that if we do not take action, firmly and rapidly, it gets worse and worse and more difficult to counter.”
The bill is likely to pass with the support of the New Democratic Party.
Public opinion polling reveals why the Liberals regard gun control as a politically viable topic. According to the Angus Reid Institute’s study results released earlier this month, 60% of Canadians feel gun violence is on the rise. Furthermore, 44 percent believe Canada’s current regulations are not strict enough, while only 17 percent believe gun laws are too strict.
Those with politically motivated intentions are showing that they will go to any length to eliminate gun rights and the gun industry. The idea that government officials would confiscate finances or personal property to further their objectives was a work of fiction. It’s an unfortunate reality today.
