An urgent plea for justice has been made by a GOP representative, who insists that the House, under Republican leadership, needs to kickstart fresh inquiries into the failed presidential bid of 2016 Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton. This call for action comes on the heels of special counsel John Durham’s revelation, which places Clinton’s campaign in the center of the fabricated ‘Russian collusion’ allegations, which were leveraged against her then-opponent, Donald Trump.
During a Fox News interview, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) spoke about the situation, responding to Sandra Smith‘s observation about the mainstream media rushing to the defense of the FBI. The FBI has come under the spotlight for launching a probe into Trump’s campaign over alleged collusion, despite the absence of any evidence supporting these claims.
The media’s complicity in this narrative, according to Donalds, has been from the get-go. They willingly publicized Clinton’s false information about Donald Trump, the same misleading data that she used with her allies at the highest levels of the FBI to initiate the ‘Crossfire Hurricane’ investigation.
Donalds expressed his disappointment in the media’s unwillingness to admit their error and the gravity of this misinformation. Instead, they brush it off, offering it minimal coverage, and then proceeding to disregard it, a move that Donalds deems as detrimental to our nation.
Donalds stressed his belief that the Durham report unequivocally reveals that multiple FBI offices had serious doubts regarding the Clinton Foundation. The foundation was established by Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton after they left their Presidential and Secretary of State positions, respectively.
In the run-up to the 2016 elections, the Justice Department and some FBI factions initiated at least four separate investigations into the foundation and Hillary Clinton. She faced accusations of breaching laws pertaining to the handling of classified materials, especially after her personal email server was discovered at her New York residence during her tenure as Secretary of State under President Barack Obama. She was also scrutinized for the alleged destruction of classified materials and emails subpoenaed by Congress.
Donalds brought to light an under-discussed point in the report, that John Brennan, the then-CIA Director, had briefed Barack Obama and Joe Biden, the then-President and Vice President respectively, in July 2016 about the machinations of the Clinton campaign. However, the Congress, as per Donalds, remains unaware of their reactions to this briefing and the fact that the then-FBI Director James Comey was supervising the probe into the Trump campaign.
Donalds pointed out that Obama had the authority to bring an immediate halt to the entire operation, a step he evidently chose not to take.
The conversation then turned back to the four investigations into the Clintons referenced in Durham’s report. These investigations were abruptly terminated in the months leading up to the November 2016 election. Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida and some other Republicans are advocating for the reopening of these investigations.
John Roberts, the co-anchor, then asked whether Congressional investigations should be launched if the DOJ and the FBI decline to do so.
Donalds strongly concurred, stating that Durham’s report sheds light on how the investigations were hastily closed. It also reveals covert communications between FBI personnel who feared retaliation from a possible Clinton presidency if their investigations continued.
However, certain federal laws, including those pertaining to the mishandling of classified materials, have statutes of limitations, leaving the potential for charges against Clinton uncertain at this juncture.
Nonetheless, Donalds declared the situation as reeking of foul play and asserted that the American people deserve to be made aware of the truth. He insisted on reigniting the investigations into the activities of the Clinton Foundation during that period.
