A British store employee orchestrated a biting farewell address that resounded through the speakers of every aisle in his former workplace.
This 18-year-old, identified as Adam Powis, who had until recently been employed by B&Q in Great Britain, utilized the in-store public address system to broadcast his disgruntlement after being let go. His unrestrained, expletive-ridden critique of his bosses and colleagues would, in turn, lead to his banning from all B&Q branches in the UK.
At the store’s Weston-super-Mare location, this unexpected incident unfolded last November. Adam Powis, seemingly set on settling scores, seized the opportunity to voice his discontent via the store’s loudspeaker. The impetus behind his audacious act was a desire for retribution against his supervisors and former colleagues whom he accused of sabotaging his work experience.
Adam’s displeasure didn’t stop at the store’s exit, it extended onto the global stage through the Chinese-created social media platform, TikTok. The dismissed teenager made it unequivocally clear to his followers that he had no intentions of reclaiming his job after being caught indulging in a vape session during working hours, violating company policy.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” he broadcasted brashly over the PA system, “Just to let you all know, I’ve been given the boot, and B&Q’s lot are a bunch of unpleasant folks. Not a fan of any of them. Enjoy your shopping.”
His sentiments were followed by a hasty exit, leaving stunned coworkers and customers in his wake as he disappeared from the store for what would be the last time.
Since his departure, Adam waited a while before sharing the video of his audacious goodbye to TikTok. The video gained momentum rapidly, racking up an impressive 2.5 million views in a remarkably short time.
Adam claimed the root of his termination to be his vaping outside of a designated area. This infuriated him, he said, as he had witnessed other employees engaging in similar activities with no apparent consequences.
Reaction to Adam’s online outburst was swift and divided. A number of TikTok users agreed that his rant “justified” his termination, considering the video had gone viral. Yet, others admired his audacity, expressing a desire for similar courage if they were ever to find themselves in his shoes.
Following the viral response, Adam showcased a letter he had received from B&Q, ominously titled “banning notice.” The retailer issued a stern warning, stating any attempts at re-entry to a store would lead to him being classified as a “trespasser,” potentially resulting in legal repercussions.
While controversy swirled around him, Adam remained unperturbed, focusing on his new venture as a personal trainer. He casually mentioned he was never a regular customer at B&Q and had plans to request others to pick up any items he may need from the store in the future.
Reflecting on the incident, Adam commented, “I didn’t hear anything from them afterward, so I thought I’d put it on TikTok as a joke. It’s so unexpected that some people think it’s fake, but the banning order proves it.” Thus, despite the drama and viral fame, Adam’s parting shot remains an indelible testament to his youthful defiance
