A symbol of love thought lost forever was miraculously found and returned to its rightful owner.
Thirteen years past, on a day woven with love and surprise, David Strand, then 75, unveiled a splendid diamond ring to his cherished wife, Mary Strand, then 71. A token of their steadfast love, this gemstone-laden beauty quickly became a prized possession of Mary, adorning her finger each day.
Yet, fate took a grim turn when the ring, in an unfortunate mishap, slid off her finger and plunged into the toilet, swallowed by the labyrinthine plumbing system.
The ring was David’s gesture of love and celebration, marking their thirty-third anniversary. This occurred thirteen years prior, a footnote in their joyous journey spanning forty-six years of marital bliss. But the cruel incident of losing the cherished diamond ring in the toilet didn’t mar their happiness, their love proved to be more precious than any gemstone.
The beautiful yet ill-fitting diamond ring, with a magnificent large stone surrounded by sixteen smaller counterparts, was a misfortune waiting to happen. As fate would have it, the loose ring slipped off Mary’s finger in the bathroom, disappearing into the abyss of the toilet, down the whirlpool of an unintentional flush.
Haunted by the loss of the ring, a symbol of her enduring marriage to David, Mary longed for a reunion with it. The ring, a beacon of their love, spiraled down the toilet, vanishing from sight and consigned to oblivion – or so they thought!
In a surprising turn of events, the unexpected news came to Mary from the most unlikely place – a water treatment plant merely a quarter-mile from her residence. Workers at the plant stumbled upon her long-lost diamond ring and sought to return this treasured keepsake to her. Vanished for over a decade – a gaping thirteen years – the ring was finally found and ready to be restored to its rightful place.
When the ring first went missing in 2010, Mary immediately enlisted the aid of her husband. As the owner of a sewer and drain-cleaning business, David was uniquely equipped for the task. Despite painstaking efforts to remove the toilet, snake a camera into the depths of the drain, and scour for more than two hundred feet, the elusive ring remained out of their grasp. Even the municipal workers, alerted of the missing ring, were unable to locate it.
A long-awaited call, a voice carrying the promise of a forgotten dream – this was the call Mary received thirteen years later. Three diligent wastewater workers, while attempting to fix a water treatment machine in March, unexpectedly discovered the diamond ring. The workers then embarked on a week-long quest to locate the original owner.
Their daughter, upon hearing the news of the found ring via a neighborhood message board, immediately recognized the likely connection. “It’s got to be your ring,” she excitedly told her mother, sparking a glimmer of hope.
Mary promptly sent over a picture of the missing ring, the pieces falling into place as if it was an exact match. Jewelers were summoned to validate the claim and indeed confirmed it was the same ring Mary had tragically lost. They equated the odds of Mary being reunited with her lost ring to the improbability of hitting the jackpot.
“The odds are astronomical,” a jeweler voiced, reflecting the sheer improbability of the reunion.
David and Mary, brimming with disbelief and joy, made their way to the Metropolitan Council to claim their long-lost treasure. As Mary laid her eyes on the ring, it was a nostalgic blast from the past – the first time she’d seen it since that fateful day in 2010 when it disappeared down the toilet.
