In a heartrending incident, a South Carolina mother became the victim of a savage dog attack after a neighbor lost control of his pack of pit bulls. The dogs, filled with rage, mauled 38-year-old Kyleen Waltman so brutally that surgeons had no choice but to amputate her two arms.
The gruesome attack happened while she was walking to her mother’s house in Honea Path, a rural region situated approximately eighty miles northwest of Columbia. The ferocious dogs relentlessly assaulted her, leaving her entire body in tatters.
In the aftermath of the horrifying event, Waltman endured over ten surgeries as doctors desperately attempted to mend her shattered body. Tragically, they were unable to salvage her arms, and both had to be removed.
Waltman’s family, particularly her 41-year-old sister, Amy Wynne, is now appealing to the public to support her in dealing with the catastrophic consequences of the dog attack. They have set up a GoFundMe campaign to collect donations.
Wynne provided an update on the fundraiser, sharing the disheartening news that, “We thought her right shoulder was going to be good and they were able to fit it with a prosthetic, well yesterday they found an infection in the bone and had to remove more of the bone. So now she will not be able to have regular prosthetics on either shoulder.”
She further elaborated on her sister’s condition, stating, “Her left leg is giving not only her but the doctors a fit. The infection in it is the same infection that she has had throughout her whole body, but for some reason, the infection in her leg they can’t stop from spreading.”
When doctors attempted to inform Waltman of their inability to save her arms, she became panic-stricken and had to be sedated until she was in a state where she could confront her new reality. Wynne disclosed that her sister is now “fully aware” that she will never have arms again.
“The doctors have told Kyleen once again about her arms and about most of the damage the dogs had done. She is now fully aware of the situation. She still has a long way to go. She has survived this for a reason,” Wynne wrote on the fundraising site, maintaining hope for her sister’s future.
Adding to the family’s struggles, Wynne and her relatives are preparing to confront the dog owner, Justin Minor, in court. They will face him for the first time this Thursday.
“We go to court, and this is where the judge is going to tell him (dog owner) what all his charges are and the repercussions of his actions. So I ask that you all please pray for my mama when she sees him face to face for the first time since the accident that everything goes accordingly.”
The harrowing dog attack took place on March 22, 2022, when Minor negligently allowed his dogs to roam free in the rural South Carolina countryside. The devastating consequences of this tragic event serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the potential dangers posed by uncontrolled animals.
