There’s a lot of bad stuff happening in the world, and the news talks about it every day. We follow serial killer trials, we watch cellphone videos of cops shooting people, and we listen while pundits and politicians preach consistent tidings of doomsday. For whatever reason, and there are plenty, it’s easy to forget about the good stuff.
So we give your daily dose of good stuff, inspiring and heartwarming at the same time. According to reports, nearly 50 good Samaritans jumped out of their vehicles on a busy Florida interstate recently after spotting an overturned SUV.
According to BayNews9, a Ford Excursion SUV was traveling on I-75 southeast of Tampa in the Ruskin, Florida, area when the rear tire blew out. The SUV skidded into the grassy median before flipping over a guardrail and landing upside down on its roof.
Motorists along the busy interstate pulled up to the site and up to fifty people helped pull the injured people from the vehicle.
A 9-year-old girl was partially trapped beneath the SUV, the report said.
Dayna Gibson and her father David Lowe were one of the many who pulled over to help the people trapped in the vehicle.
They helped get the 31-year-old driver and one of the younger passengers out but Gibson said the driver needed more: “She told us that her youngest daughter was under the vehicle. So at that time all of us ran around to the other side and we saw the little girl’s arm sticking out from under the vehicle.”
The motorists attempted to roll the SUV over to pull the girl to safety but they weren’t strong enough.
More people began to pull over and join the effort until up to 50 people surrounded the vehicle and held the SUV upright long enough for others to help the 9-year-old out.
“We achieved what would have been impossible by coming together,” Gibson stated. “There were people from all walks of life there, it didn’t matter.”
“It was surreal,” Lowe said. “Everyone from shorts and flip flops to three piece suits.”
The three passengers in the SUV were taken to the nearby Tampa General Hospital and are in stable condition, with the driver having been released, according to Miami Herald.
Gibson had the same epiphany, saying, “I think if we could be reminded how powerful we are together, especially during these times, we could do a lot of great things.” This isn’t just a picture of an incredible rescue, it’s a snapshot of the American spirit.
