Despite all the talk about women empowerment, something as natural as breastfeeding is still frowned upon and seen as unnecessary body exposure in society.
Now, a mother who says she was shamed for breastfeeding her son at Disneyland has hit back at her ‘haters’ in one gleeful picture. She decided to teach a lesson to all those who mock mothers who breastfeed in public.
Brittni Medina was at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, with her family when she managed to outrage other patrons in the park. While they were standing in a long line for a ride, she decided to breastfeed her infant son, as she did not wish to lose her spot in line. Unfortunately, some were incredibly upset by her actions.
According to Medina, two women began criticizing her for breastfeeding in a public place, making loud comments in which they claimed she should have gone somewhere more private to feed her child. Rather than ignore the comments, Medina decided to get even, and all it took was one photo.
As she continued to nurse, Medina moved a little closer to the woman before asking her husband to snap the picture. In the background of the resulting shot, the two women watch the smiling mother as she holds and nurses her son, their disapproving faces perfectly captured on camera.
Medina posted an unapologetic picture on Facebook and slammed the “peep of her haters” who made “snarky comments” towards her, as she nursed her hungry ten-month-old.
In her post, she said: “These women were making snarky comments so I moved from my spot to catch a picture with these characters. Not for attention for me but attention to the fact NO WOMEN SHOULD BE SHAMED FOR FEEDING THEIR BABY UNCOVERED.”
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that Brittni has had to deal with people who had a problem with her nursing her baby in public.
“People get so mad anywhere I go. Most smile or look away but almost every time theres the few that look angry or like they saw a ghost” she says. “I was tired of hiding to make others happy. My son loves eating whenever. He knows I would never deny him to make others comfortable.”
The photo quickly went viral, drawing thousands of comments, shares, and reactions. Many praised the mother and deemed her a hero.
