A Texas mother’s quick thinking and unwavering courage saved her family from a persistent intruder, demonstrating the power of self-defense in the face of danger.
In the face of rising crime rates across Texas, one courageous mother took matters into her own hands when a burglar broke into her home, intent on harming her and her children. Despite locking herself and her little ones in the bedroom, the intruder persisted in trying to gain access. Thankfully, the mother was armed and managed to fend off the criminal by shooting and injuring him during the invasion.
The quick-thinking mom used her firearm to wound the burglar, who then fled the scene. While she and her children hid in the bedroom, the intruder persisted in his attempts to invade their sanctuary and commit heinous acts against the family.
According to a statement from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, the mother warned the invader that she was armed and had called 911. However, the burglar refused to abandon his mission, forcing the mother to exercise her Second Amendment right to protect her family from the menacing criminal.
The incident took place on October 25, 2022, at 9 pm in Edinburg, Texas, a town located along the U.S.-Mexico border in the Rio Grande Valley region. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Carlos Garcia, ignored the mother’s warnings and persisted in trying to enter the bedroom.
Garcia gained entry to the home through the garage, intending to cause harm or steal the family’s possessions. In an act of self-defense, the mother fired her gun through the bedroom door, striking Garcia in the left arm. He fled the house after being shot by the fearless mother.
As the mother had called 911 prior to using her firearm, authorities were quick to respond. They found Garcia hiding in a field approximately one hundred yards from the victim’s residence.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra expressed support for the mother’s actions, stating to KRGV, “You have the right to defend yourself in your own home against an intruder. I imagine she was in fear for her life … so she did what she had to do, and we support her.” He added, “You don’t have to give notice, if someone’s breaking into your home you have the right to protect yourself and use deadly force, and you’re not going to have any problem with the sheriff of Hidalgo County.”
The sheriff’s Facebook page received numerous comments applauding the mother’s bravery. One user wrote, “Great job protecting your kids. Glad to hear all is well. Your children will remember this and be proud of your courage to protect them and your home.”
