A mother’s unconventional choice for her miracle baby’s name has sent shockwaves through her family and friends, sparking heated debate and urgent pleas for her to reconsider.
The process of selecting a baby name often holds great significance for parents, who may agonize over the perfect choice for months or even wait to meet their newborn before making a decision. However, one mother’s choice for her infant’s name has left her family and friends reeling in shock and horror. They are now imploring her to rush to the courthouse and change the child’s name immediately.
Josie King, a 27-year-old mother hailing from Devon, United Kingdom, revealed her baby’s controversial name on The Jeremy Vine Show, prompting an onslaught of vitriol from listeners around the globe.
The name that has everyone in an uproar? King named her seven-month-old son Lucifer, though she adamantly denies any association with the devil, citing her lack of religious beliefs.
The mother of two bestowed the contentious name upon her “miracle baby,” born after King tragically lost ten other children to miscarriages over the years. King claims she discovered the name “Lucifer” in a baby name book and was drawn to its sound. Furthermore, the Latin translation of the name means “bearer of light,” which she felt was fitting for her miracle child.
While participating in an episode of The Jeremy Vine Show, King defended her choice to name her son Lucifer. Despite the outpouring of anger from listeners who believe she crossed the line by naming her child after the devil, she maintains that her decision was innocent and unrelated to Satan or the hellish underworld.
In response to the backlash, King stated, “I’ve been called ‘an atheist.’ – I didn’t even know what an atheist was till last night. Everyone has their own beliefs. When it comes to religion and real life, they are very different things – one is actually living, and the other is in a book. The devil is not the meaning of my son’s name.”
The uproar over King’s choice of the name Lucifer stems from its strong association with the devil in the minds of many. King recounted the emotional turmoil she experienced during her pregnancy, saying, “I was diagnosed with hemiplegia in September, then found out I was pregnant with Lucifer in October.” She continued, “The pregnancy alone was stressful. I looked at thousands of baby names, and it wasn’t a decision I made lightly because I knew it was the last child I could ever have. I had Lucifer six years after the birth of my first daughter because during that time, I lost ten children.”
King expressed her gratitude for the chance to have a second child and admitted that she initially believed she would be having a girl. She planned to name the baby Narnia, but upon discovering that she was expecting a boy, she decided on Lucifer instead.
Defending her choice, King said, “I like the names I like. It may not be right for other people. When I chose his name, I knew people wouldn’t like it, but it’s not up to them.”
