In an unthinkable tragedy, a young boy’s insatiable desire for a virtual reality headset leads him down a dark path, forever shattering the lives of those closest to him.
A merely ten years old Wisconsin boy, shockingly took his mother’s life after she refused to buy him the virtual reality headset he desperately wanted. Fueled by rage, he shot his mother, 44-year-old Quiana Mann, at close range in their Milwaukee home, a city already grappling with soaring crime rates.
The very next day, the child coldly used his mother’s Amazon account to purchase the coveted Oculus VR headset, ranging in price from $130 to $500. Later, he expressed remorse to his grandmother for the horrific act, but his main concern was the whereabouts of his Amazon package.
Family members have revealed that the boy struggles with rage issues and hears imaginary voices. Despite his young age, Wisconsin prosecutors plan to charge him as an adult with first-degree reckless homicide, a decision that could tarnish his future permanently.
Initially, the child told police that the shooting was an unintended accident, claiming his mother walked in front of the gun as he aimed it at a wall to frighten her. However, in a subsequent interview, he admitted to deliberately pointing the gun at his mother before pulling the trigger. The tragic incident occurred in their 87th Street home around 7 am on November 21, 2022.
Quiana Mann left behind four children, including the boy who killed her. After the murder, the child hid the weapon in a closet and informed his older sister, 26-year-old Brianna Moore, of their mother’s death. Moore immediately dialed 911 upon hearing the devastating news.
Although Wisconsin law allows children as young as ten to be charged as adults for grave offenses like homicide, it is expected that the boy’s attorney will request the case to be moved to juvenile court.
The defense attorney, Angela Cunningham, referred to the situation as an “absolute family tragedy” that no one could dispute. However, she expressed doubt that the Wisconsin criminal justice system is adequately equipped to handle the needs of such a young child.
