A mother was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing her son and keeping his dead body in her car for 10 years, police in Virginia said.
Virginia Beach police said that they have arrested 44-year-old Tonya Slaton, after being accused of killing her son, 15-year-old Quincy Jamar Davis, and keeping his body in the trunk of her car.
Slaton was charged with one count of murder. She was booked into jail, and denied bail. According to the police, Slaton, was pulled over by an officer for driving with expired plates.
The officer discovered the child’s dead body in the trunk after noticing a strong smell of rotting flesh. Davis disappeared 10 years ago, and was never reported missing.
Slaton is accused of killing Davis. The medical examiner’s office could not determine the cause and manner of death. Slaton was convicted of assault and battery for injuring Davis when he was 6 years old.
Davis had cuts and bruises on his chest and back. Slaton was sentenced to six months of probation.
