A happy marriage doesn’t always depend on finding the right person – it’s also important to do the right thing.
When you get married, you promise to always be there for your partner, for better or for worse. I think American couple Jon and Marci Newman really embody this principle.
Their, daughter, 17-year-old Mackenna Newman saw this selfless love displayed firsthand in the love of her parents, Marci and Jon. Marci was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in October and recently began radiation treatments. The doctors ordered her to stay isolated in her bedroom while the chemotherapy did its job… but Jon would not be parted from her.
Mackenna posted this photo to her Twitter account which has people speechless and also in tears for all the right reasons.
Mackenna shared the image along with the caption, “My mom has to stay in her room in isolation for her cancer radiation so my dad set up a desk at her door to keep her company and I’m crying.”
The photo shows Jon Newman sitting in front of a slightly cracked door. He has the whole set-up, complete with a desk and papers, and he’s peeking through the door at his wife Marci.
He may not technically be at her bedside, but he’s determined to get as close as possible.
According to Mackenna, her dad sits outside her mother’s room “the entire time”. Her mother, Marci, for her part says this is typical of her loving husband Jon:
“Jon goes to every doctor’s appointment, every blood test, every surgery, every radiation. And as you can see, if he can’t be by my side he is as close as he can get,” Marci told The Independent.
After sharing the photo on Twitter, it immediately went viral for good reasons receiving more than 71,000 retweets and more than 172,000 likes. Several social media users offered words of support to Mackenna and her family.
“Beautiful! True, beautiful, [meaningful] love,” wrote one Twitter user. “All the best to your mom.”
“I am a little late discovering this inspiring tweet. Thinking of you and your family. Your parents are amazing,” wrote another. “Your dad. Incredible!”
“Amazing…may she heal soon. My heart goes out to you and your family,” another user added. “Stay strong you have an amazing Dad.”
“Kenna, I’m a #ThyCa survivor & a nurse. This is the sweetest!” wrote another user. “Loads of love [and] luck to your mom! Please let me know if I can help.”
“My heart is melting tell your mom I’m praying for her [and] your Fam,” added another. “Your parents are amazing. Praying for a positive outcome for you all!”
What a wonderful and loving husband you are Jon! Such a touching example of what love and marriage are truly about.
Now we keep the Newmans in our thoughts and hope that all goes well with Marci’s cancer treatment. We can no doubt be certain that with such a dedicated husband by her side, Marci is well surrounded.
