He Spotted Smoke While On His Daily Run, What Happened Next Is Absolutely HEROIC!

Uncategorized

He was just on his usual daily run but he acted immediately when he detected smoke after realizing something is trapped inside. This made him a hero!

On November 06, 2021, Paul Murphy, a resident of Scotts Valley, California, was out for a jog when he came across something that really made his pulse start to boil: Smoke billowing out of a house.

Murphy then approached the front door of the house and rang the doorbell, wishing to get the attention of the owners.

The Polito family, the house owner, was out of town at the time. Luckily, they had a Ring doorbell installed, and Courtney Polito answered Murphy.

Courtney Polito said:

“I saw him running back and forth. So, I answered it and he said, ‘Hello, do you see there’s smoke coming out of the top of your house?'”

Video from the doorbell recording shows plumes of smoke, and you can hear the smoke detector alarms clamoring in the background.

Once Courtney realized the situation was serious, she gave Murphy the code to get inside and rescue their two dachshunds, a rabbit, and a cat.

Tony, Courtney’s husband acknowledged what Murphy did and said that it takes a special kind of person to go into a burning house to save animals.

Murphy, not only was the family’s pets rescued but the fire was contained before it consumed the whole house. There is smoke damage throughout the house, damaged cabinets, and destroyed Christmas presents. Their Chevy Blazer was damaged, too.

Courtney is forever thankful for the selfless measures Murphy took in the face of danger just to save a complete stranger’s pets.

Courtney added:

“The fire department said 10 more minutes and the house would have been gone”

“ I want to give him a hug, I’ll bring him to lunch. I’ll bring him dinner. … I just want to thank him so much and let him know how thankful we are. My kids, my husband, we would be devastated if we lost our pets, let alone our home.”

According to KSBW-TV, the jogger’s identity was unknown initially but he was later identified and the Polito Family was able to thank him personally.

Scotts Valley firefighter Andrew LoFranco said it was a first that someone uses the Ring system to help prevent a total disaster.

Andrew LoFranco said:

“This is the first for our agency where someone uses a Ring doorbell system to alert 911 and the homeowners.”

The Scotts Valley Fire Department may recommend a commendation for Murphy.

Whether a commendation will be given or not, Murphy is already a hero to the Polito family and their four pets.
