DirecTV has just announced something that will hurt all NFL teams where it hurts the most… their pockets.
It seems as though millions of Americans have wasted time and money on the NFL, and with the recent anthem protest fad, many former NFL fans are left wondering what they are supposed to do with their DirecTV packages now that they are no longer supporting the NFL.
Many football fans are choosing to boycott the NFL since their teams have been disrespecting our country so openly, and they don’t want to be stuck with their DirecTV packages that they bought simply to watch Sunday football. Now, DirecTV, one of the United States’ largest premium television providers, has just made a shocking revelation.
They have done something that is unprecedented, and never in history have we seen a reaction like this one. DirecTV will be allowing their customers to receive full refunds if they are so inclined to cancel their NFL Sunday Ticket packages due to the anthem protests. Good guy DirecTV has really outdone themselves this time!
It was confirmed Tuesday evening by the ESPN network (who has never been known for being conservative) that DirecTV will indeed be allowing customers full refunds for their Sunday Ticket packages. This is the first time in history that DirecTV will be altering their own policy, a policy that normally prevents any kind of package cancellation after a sports season has already begun. They will be refunding customers the full amount of money paid if that customer would like to cancel their NFL bundle.
These viewership packages let sports fans watch any and all games that are outside their local viewing area. Such packages cost around $280 per season. This shocking move came following President Donald Trump’s statement about the professional football players who decided to protest or make other disrespectful motions during our anthem.
The Pittsburgh Steelers refused to even come out of their locker room during the anthem over the weekend. More than 200 players acted out in one way or another, and it rubbed Americans the wrong way.
ESPN stated, “At some stadiums, fans booed the players. Others took to Twitter to say they were canceling their Sunday Ticket subscriptions.”
I think we all saw this one coming. Of course, Americans weren’t going to be happy with multimillionaire sports players kneeling during the National Anthem and whining about “inequality” and “injustice.” These guys lead lives that most Americans will only ever dream of, all for throwing around a football. When will they get it through their thick skulls that Americans don’t want their athletes to stick their noses into politics? They are being paid to play football, not to make political statements.
The NFL is in for a serious wake-up call now that DirecTV is offering refunds on NFL packages. With the NFL boycotts, refunds on television packages, and fans ceasing to purchase NFL merchandise, these guys are about to see the repercussions of their actions.
While free speech is extremely important in America, that does not mean you show up to your place of work and make a scene. There is a time and place for protesting, and the football field is not the right place for it.
That’s the only thing that will get their attention.
Wow. I am amazed and glad that directv is taking this stance. We need more companies to do the same. This has becone a war, people. Nfl thinks they own us and can win. I think maybe not.
Perhaps, the “disadvantaged Americans” will replace the lost revenue; and perhaps pigs will fly when the multi-million contracts are renewed. I’ll chip in my two cents.
