Democrat and Republican presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were keynote speakers Thursday at the annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, an event designed to raise money for Catholic charities.
While both used their respective speeches at the event to roast one another, which was typical for the relatively lighthearted affair, it cannot be denied that Trump’s jokes had an especially piercing edge to them — particularly his jab at the former secretary of state over her ongoing legal troubles.
“We have proven that we can actually be civil toward each other,” this joke began. “In fact, before taking the dais, Hillary accidentally bumped into me, and she very civilly said, ‘Pardon me.’”
“And I very politely replied, ‘Let me talk to you about that after I get into office,’” Trump’s joke concluded.
The joke earned a hearty applause from the audience, and rightfully so.
The quip centered around Trump’s previously made promise that if he were elected president, he would appoint a special prosecutor to look into Clinton’s improper use of a private email server to transmit classified State Department intelligence.
Listen to his joke below:
If the billionaire candidate does indeed win the November election, you had better believe Clinton will be begging and praying for a presidential pardon.
The best part about Trump’s roast of Clinton was that she was right there, sitting only feet away from him, forced to endure his relentless mockery.
As could be seen in the video, however, the Democrat candidate seemed to take it in good fun — although that’s probably what her script told her to do.
Either way, Trump roasted her beautifully — kind of like a Thanksgiving turkey — though sadly, the American people must wait until after the election to see her stuffed.
