When They Stepped On The Course, What They Saw Had Them Call Police IMMEDIATELY!

A golf course in Maine has an additional hole after a bone-chilling discovery led police to the Gorham Country Club golf course at around 7:45 p.m.

The police officers found a wheel that detached from a plane’s landing gear. According to Aviation authorities, the twin-engine aircraft took off with five passengers on board when its right-side wheel and a strut fell off. It was coming into land when the incident unfolded on Tuesday evening.

It returned to MacArthur Airport on Long Island, where it performed an emergency landing on its belly.

Meanwhile, golf course staff were notified by aviation officials that the gear might be on the course.

It was located around 7:45 p.m. and given to the Gorham Police Department. By Thursday, the department had handed the gear over to federal investigators.

Fortunately, the Gorham Police Department had already been made aware of the situation. A phone call had come in at approximately 6 p.m. from the Portland Jetport, informing them that a pilot had called the Jetport tower and reported losing some of their landing gear over Gorham.

The plane, a twin-engine Piper Navajo, was able to perform a belly landing at approximately 6:30 p.m., touching down safely at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip, New York. No one on the plane or the golf course was injured.

Police shared some of the pictures from the golf course on Facebook.

“Just when you thought you have seen everything, things really do fall from the sky. There were 2 miracles in this event. Number one, nobody was struck by this falling object when it fell on the 7th. fairway from the sky. Number 2, the plane was able to do a belly landing and landed safely in Islip New York. (MacArthur Airport–KISP) The plane was a Piper Navajo twin-engine,” the Gorham Police Department wrote in a post on July 21.

The Gorham Country Club reportedly handed the wheel and strut to federal aviation investigators, and a probe into the incident is ongoing.

On Thursday, an amateur golfer on the course, Michael Sweeney, told NECN that planes headed to the International Jetport often fly over the course, but that he was surprised to find “a hole on the fairway that’s all roped off”.
“I never really thought it would happen,” he added. “It’s just one of those crazy circumstances. Thankfully no one go hurt, no one was in the wrong place.”
