In a recent episode of her talk show, actress Drew Barrymore demonstrated her support for trans activist Dylan Mulvaney in a highly theatrical manner by dropping to her knees in front of the guest. The moment soon went viral on Twitter, with users voicing their opinions on the matter.
Mulvaney was invited to the show to discuss the TikTok series “Days of Girlhood,” which chronicles the influencer’s journey through gender transition. As Mulvaney discussed the challenges faced in trying to “combat the hate,” Barrymore knelt before the activist’s chair, garnering significant attention.
One Twitter user took issue with the scene, stating, “Drew Barrymore getting on her knees to worship at the feet of Dylan Mulvaney might be one of [the] more disturbing moments of recent TV. Why are women fawning over men who appropriate degrading caricatures of womanhood?”
Another user criticized the actress, saying, “You know that being a woman is more than a mask you wear. It’s not just glitter eyeshadow and pretty dresses—it’s baby puke and 2 AM feedings and smelly husbands. Dylan Mulvaney is wearing #WomanFace.”
A third echoed the sentiment: “Drew Barrymore is on her knees bowing before a man. How feminist of her.” Yet another described the exchange as “pure CRINGE.”

During “The Drew Barrymore Show,” Barrymore praised Mulvaney as a “huge fan” and discussed the “Day 365 Live” event, which took place on March 13 at New York City’s Rainbow Room to celebrate the one-year anniversary of “Days of Girlhood.” Barrymore commented, “I think there’s also a way to be taught and educated, to open minds. And there are those that can, and I think you have that gift.”
Mulvaney later shared a personal anecdote about meeting a trans-identifying individual at a Broadway show who had found the “Days of Girlhood” series helpful for their entire family.
“I think that trans and queer youth are some of the strongest humans alive,” Mulvaney told Barrymore. “The fact that they are pushing through to be themselves. But I think the parents are just as important.” Barrymore responded by highlighting the importance of being given tools and education to become better parents.
