Steven Seagal is a talented man– he has a thriving film career in Hollywood, and also works in Louisiana law enforcement reserves. The staunch Republican recently sat down in an interview with Oksana Boyko on US-Russia relations and offered a very disturbing opinion about what’s going on with all the mass shootings.
Boyko asked Seagal where he stood on the issue of gun control. Seagal tells the interviewer that he believes in ‘the Second Amendment and the Constitution more than anything in the world.’
Seagal explains why gun rights are so important to many Americans. “Adolph Hitler, for example, when he wanted to annihilate the people of Germany, the first thing he did was take away their guns,” he says.
“The rights to bear arms wasn’t just to protect people from foreign invaders, it was to protect them against evil governments, and anyone that would violate their inherent rights as a human being,” Seagal says in defense of the Second Amendment.
Then the actor/activist expresses a controversial opinion, which, if true, is frightening to consider. According to Seagal, the rising number of mass shootings over the last few years are no coincidence. He point-blank states that he believes ‘a lot of these mass murders… I believe a lot of this is engineered.’
Seagal offers no evidence for this theory. The one kink in it would be that the rise in mass shootings over the last few years in the U.S. has not resulted in people crying for our guns to be taken away; it’s driven many people to arm themselves. Gun sales continue to rise, and whenever the government threatens to tighten restrictions, sellers claim gun sales have a sharp spike.
That’s a bold claim to make, even for a guy as tough as Seagal.
