According to book marketplace AbeBooks, certain prints of the fantasy books could be worth up to £40,000. Yep, £40,000. Get the round in.
Hardcover first edition prints of HP and the Philosopher’s Stone are particularly special as only 500 copies were initially printed. 300 of which went to libraries.
So how do you spot on of them? Well, one way is by looking at the print line. It should read 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 and the credit “Joanne Rowling” not JK.
First prints for a hardcover first edition of the Chamber of Secrets are less valuable but still bang for your buck, selling off at $9,000.
The Prisoner of Azkaban, however, is valued a bit higher due to the first hardcover prints stopping during printing after ‘Joanne Rowling’ and not ‘JK Rowling’ had been printed on the copyright page.
The Goblet of Fire can allegedly go for a four-figure sum, as well.
Moral of the story: always buy first edition works of fiction.
