A Navy veteran working at a hotel took photos and videos of dozens of Homeland Security vehicles in a parking garage and posted them to Facebook. His actions got him fired, he’s been called a ‘terrorist’ and has been warned that the government might come after him.
Chesterfield, Missouri resident Mark Paffrath was working at the Drury Plaza Hotel when he noticed an unusual sight: dozens of Homeland Security vehicles were parked in a garage. Instead of using discretion, as you would think a former member of the military would do, Paffrath took photos and videos of the vehicles after his shift ended. He posted them on Facebook. “Why are all the cop cars here…I wonder if it has anything to do with Ferguson,” he wrote.
When Paffrath went back to work the next morning, his boss Jeff Barker called him into his office. Barker told Paffrath to get rid of the photos and videos immediately. Paffrath obeyed without putting up a fight, but just taking the images down wasn’t good enough. He was fired the very next day by John Bohnert, security director for the hotel company.
According to his Bohnert, Paffrath almost cost the company a $150,000 contract with the government. Bohnert also told the veteran, “You’re a terrorist and you have dishonorably served your country by posting the photos and video.”
Bohnert warned Paffrath not to re-post the images, saying that if he did he would have ‘the federal government knocking on your door and you will be incarcerated.”
Paffrath decided to tempt fate, and reposted some of the pictures.
It’s a good thing when this guy was in the Navy that he wasn’t captured and interrogated by the enemy; the country would have been screwed. Apparently he can’t keep a secret.
