Pence Breaks Senate Tie Twice in One Day, Votes to Allow States to Withhold Federal Funds from Planned Parenthood

So. Much. Winning!

This week, the Senate voted to overturn an Obama administration regulation and will now allow states to withhold funds from Planned Parenthood.

After Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) joined the Democrats and voted against the bill, Vice President Mike Pence acted as the tiebreaker, and it wasn’t his first of the day.

The regulation, issued by the Department of Health and Human Services in December 2016, prohibited states from withholding Title X funds from “specific types of providers based on reasons unrelated to their ability to provide services in an effective manner.”

The bill went into effect just TWO DAYS before Obama left office.

As noted on Planned Parenthood’s homepage, services covered by the Title X federal grant program include well-woman exams, cervical and breast cancer screenings, birth control, and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.

The Senator who introduced the bill, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), argued that the Obama regulation took away power from the states in favor of “federal bureaucrats.”

She stated:

“It should be the right of our states to allocate sub-grants under the Title X program in the way that best fits the needs of the people living there.

Unfortunately, like many other rules issued during the Obama administration, this rule attempted to empower federal bureaucrats in Washington and silence our states.”

Rep. Diane Black (R-TN), backed Sen. Joni Ernst ‘s statements:

“The Obama rule tried to force states — including Tennessee — to send taxpayer money to abortion providers like Planned Parenthood instead of community health centers and other qualified health providers.

Title X has worked for 45 years until the Obama Administration changed the rules, and this legislation will simply undo this ill-conceived change.”

executive vice president of Planned Parenthood, Dawn Laguens, was FUMING at the court’s decision, and fired shots at none other than Mike Pence:

“Mike Pence went from yesterday’s forum on empowering women to today leading a group of male politicians in a vote to take away access to birth control and cancer screenings.

There’s a reason they could barely get enough votes to get this bill through a procedural step: People are sick and tired of politicians making it even harder for them to access health care, and they will not stand for it.”

Keep in mind federal funding of abortion is blocked by the Hyde Amendment — except in cases of rape or incest, or to save the life of the woman.

Pence is making waves…and WE CAN’T GET ENOUGH!

‘MERICA!
