Philadelphia police say a masked man smashed a second-floor window of a Frankford apartment around 5 a.m. Wednesday and climbed inside. According to investigators, the woman who lives there fired at least two rounds, striking the 29-year-old in the head. He was taken to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead.
What police say happened
Investigators said the man was wearing a ski mask when he shattered the window and entered the apartment. Officers responding to the scene found him lying on a bedroom floor, police said. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.

Police: prior relationship noted
Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters that the woman and the man “knew each other” and had some sort of prior relationship. Police did not immediately provide additional details about that relationship.
What we don’t know yet
As of Wednesday morning, police had not announced any arrests or charges in connection with the shooting. Authorities have not said whether the woman’s firearm was legally possessed. The names of those involved were not released in the initial statements.
Status of the investigation
