There’s A Sad Truth About The Life That Lisa Marie Presley Suffered Through…

From the death of her father when she was just 9 years old to the joy she felt raising her children, Lisa Marie Presley’s life in the spotlight was a series of ups and downs.

The singer, who had lived her life in the limelight since she was born to Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley in 1968, had been married four times and had weathered devastating setbacks such as the death of her son Benjamin Keough in 2020 and a secret battle with opioid and painkiller addiction.

On Thursday evening, her mother Priscilla confirmed the death of Elvis’ only daughter and a dedicated keeper of her father’s legacy, a few hours after her daughter was rushed to the hospital after having a medical emergency at home.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Priscilla Presley said in a statement. “She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known.”

Lisa Marie Presley has had an interesting love life, to say the least. The singer-songwriter was first married to music producer Danny Keough from 1988 to 1994, with whom she had two children (the late Benjamin Keough and actress Riley Keough). She then married Michael Jackson – at that point the biggest superstar on the planet – 20 days after her divorce from Keough.

Their marriage lasted for two years, and the two filed for divorce in 1996, citing irreconcilable differences. She then was briefly engaged to musician John Oszajca before leaving him for actor Nicolas Cage, whom she met at a party in 2000. The two tied the knot two years later and their marriage lasted until they separated in 2004.

Fast forward another two years and her fourth marriage was to her music producer Michael Lockwood. The pair wed in Japan in 2006 and two years later welcomed twins Vivienne Ann Lockwood and Finley Aaron Love Lockwood, born in 2008. The couple divorced a decade later in 2016 and were locked into a years-long custody dispute.

Despite Elvis Presley’s daughter bringing an inherited $62 million fortune to the marriage and Lockwood bringing just $3000, the couple fell deeply in love and had twin girls, 11-year-old Finley and Harper.

The union would be her longest to date, but came to an end a decade after the marriage in 2016.

Despite Lisa Marie having a strong prenuptial agreement, Lockwood took his wife to court for a significant portion of her wealth, citing that he had been badly advised by his lawyers and hadn’t read the agreement properly at the time of their wedding.

The battle dragged on for two years and was finally settled in Lisa Marie’s favour in 2018. Her fortune remained protected and Lockwood remained almost penniless.

According to AWM:

Although she inherited Elvis’s massive fortune, which only grew as Graceland attracted thousands of tourists, Lisa Marie did not manage her money well. At one point in her career, she claimed to be sixteen million dollars in debt because she had made a terrible business deal with her business manager Barry Siegel. She sued the manager in 2018, accusing him of mismanaging her inheritance from Elvis.

Priscilla did such a good job managing Elvis’s estate that by the time her daughter took control of Elvis’s trust, it was worth a whopping $100 million. Pricilla increased Elvis’s fortune by a magnitude of twenty times thanks to her business prowess and management skills.

Lisa Marie did not fare so well. Despite inheriting so much wealth at the age of twenty-five, she squandered much of it until she fell into millions of dollars of debt. She hired Barry Siegel to manage her money in 2003, which was the same her she launched her lackluster music career. Siegel worked for famous people, including Al Pacino, Elijah Wood, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet, and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
