I’ve got to admit, it’s been a long time goal of mine to go on an African Safari and check out the amazing wildlife. Fuel was only added to the fire when I heard stories about the drunk elephants stumbling around like a bunch of fools at your local bar. Lore has it that the marula fruit (same family as the mango, often used in jams, wine, beer and Amarula Liquor), begins to ferment and is consumed in mass quantity by the elephants. Another popular lore states that fruits, such as the marula or watermelon, would ferment inside the elephants stomach. Whether you believe that the animals in Africa are eating fermented fruit or there’s internal fermenting in play, the intoxicating result is the same – drunk elephants are absolutely hilarious!
Oh man, I think I had one too many, I can’t get my face outta the dirt!
Hey boys… I’m feeling a little tipsy, let’s wrassle!
Knock it off, you’re not funny. Get off me you fat lard!
You guys are mean. I’m going home!
I’m not feeling so good, the floor’s spinning.
It’s okay, just sleep it off. I’ll be right here with you.
DUUUUDE! I am not going to be able to sleep off this hangover!!!
Now, I wasn’t actually there and I don’t speak elephant, but I can only imaging what was going on from the photos of these evidently drunk elephants. It’s pretty apparent that they are having a bad day! If you liked the photos you’re going to love this video of a bunch of different drunk animals who’ve decided to partake in the sweet nectar of the fermented marula!
