Since the 9/11 terror attacks, there has been an ongoing debate about the Muslim faith. President Barack Obama wouldn’t even utter the words “radical Islamic terrorist” when discussing the horrific attacks by al-Qaeda and ISIS. Now, a blunt and politically incorrect statement about the religion has gone viral.
“There are 1.2 billion Muslims in the world today. Of course not all of them are radicals. The majority of them are peaceful people…but the peaceful majority [are] irrelevant,” said Brigitte Gabriel, the founder and president of ACTI for America, during a public forum for the Heritage Foundation.
Gabriel then got to the crux of the matter, “The radicals are estimated to be between 15 to 25 percent, according to all intelligence services around the world…You’re looking to 180 million to 300 million people dedicated to the destruction of Western civilization.”
Brigitte Gabriel sliced and diced through all the nonsense as she responded to a comment by an audience member. The audience member argued that all Muslims are portrayed as violent and unfairly so.
This Muslim woman, Saba Ahmed, pointed out there are eight million followers of Islam currently living in the United States, most of whom are peaceful people.
“How can we fight an ideological war with weapons?” Ahmed had asked. “…How can you ever win this thing if you don’t address it ideologically?”
“We [are] not here to bash Muslims. You are the one who brought up…Muslims,” Gabriel continued. “We are here to discuss how four Americans died [in Benghazi] and what our government is doing.” Fifteen to 25 percent doesn’t sound like a very large number. Perhaps that is why liberals in Washington and in the mainstream media like to throw it around without putting the figure in perspective the way Brigitte Gabriel did.
“Why should we worry about the radicals, the 15 to 25 percent? Because it is the radicals that kill. Because it is the radicals that behead and massacre,” Gabriel said. “When you you look at all the lessons of history, most Germans were peaceful.”
The percentage of radical Muslims in the world is roughly equal to the current population of the United States of America. Let that sink in for a moment, fellow patriots. If “only” 20 percent of the Muslim population is radicalized, that means about 270 million people are walking around in the world with a desire to kill people who live in the Western world.
The growing number of individuals willing to slaughter innocents in the name of Allah is staggering.
It is not about Islam as a whole—it is about extremism and the radicalized version terrorists use to bring meaning and justification to their actions.
