The gator came to visit.
An 11-foot alligator was found in a Fort Myers drain after residents complained about bad smells and backed up water.
Betsy Clayton, the Lee County public information officer, told the Fort Myers News-Press that they get calls about gators about twice a year, but most aren’t that big.
The Department of Transportation crew was able to get the decaying alligator out of the pipe — after taking the photo — and disposed of it.
“This was an abnormally large gator,” said Randy Cerchie, director of the county’s DOT.
“It’s just part of what we do.”
