Fox News reported, according to The Gateway Pundit (TGP), that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) told staff he will not run for House Minority Leader when the next Congress is seated.
Jordan enters the race
TGP reports that House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) is running for Minority Leader. The outlet adds that Jordan may face a challenge from current House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA). TGP also notes Jordan previously ran for Speaker in 2023 after Kevin McCarthy was removed via a motion to vacate and that Jordan had announced in September he would step down as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee.

Chamber control, per TGP
TGP states that Democrats flipped control of both the House and Senate on Tuesday night, with 29 House seats already flipped as of its reporting and an eventual 81-seat House majority expected once all races are called. The outlet also says seven Senate seats had flipped so far and that House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) will likely become Speaker.
What’s next
Leadership elections will follow when the new Congress convenes. Watch for whether Jordan consolidates support or faces a head-to-head with Scalise, as described by TGP.
