A British man stumbled upon his ex-wife’s infidelity in an unusual way – through a medical exam – and found out he wasn’t the biological father of their three sons.
For 21 years Richard Mason, a British Millionaire believed the 3 sons his wife birthed were his, only to find out many years later that he had a medical condition that made it impossible for him to father children naturally.
According to DailyMail, Richard learned Kate Mason had lied about the paternity when doctors diagnosed him with cystic fibrosis and told him he had been infertile since birth in 2016.
Richard from Rhos, North Wales, met Kate while working as colleagues at Barclays Bank in the West Midlands in the 1980s. The pair tied the knot in 1987.
The wealthy co-founder’s career reached an all-time high when he teamed up with Simon Nixon to launch one of Britain’s first-price comparison internet sites, Moneysupermarket.
The couple welcomed three children together via c-section. The eldest boy, Willem, was born in 1995, and the twins, Joel and Ed, were born in 1999. Richard was present during all childbirths and was eager to embrace the fatherhood experience.
While he continued to progress professionally, his personal life hit the rocks when he and his wife separated in 2007. The divorce was finalized in 2008. Kate reportedly walked away with a lump sum of about $5,000,000 and ongoing maintenance.
A heartbroken Richard also shared that his lung capacity deteriorated two years after his CF diagnosis in 2018.
Per Richard, he complied with the Child Support Agency and was said to have nearly $4,000 a month in the early years following their divorce. But the business tycoon noted that it was never enough for his ex-wife.
Richard, who is a 55-year-old sued his ex-wife, demanding the roughly $5.8 million he paid her in their 2008 divorce settlement. He also wanted the matter of paternity fraud addressed, though it is unclear in what manner.
His ex-wife has agreed to settle but as long as she doesn’t need to name the children’s biological father.
The source said Richard’s public statements about his ex-wife had shocked those who knew the couple. “I assume the natural father, whoever he is, has not made any contact and no doubt doesn’t even know they exist.”
