Micah Farish wanted to surprise his wonderful wife, Karis, in the most amazing way. Little did he know, what he did for her was about to go viral on the Internet.
On December 14, 2000, Karis Farish lost her father, Tom Craig, to an unexpected accident. Devastated by the event, the family passed along many of his belongings on to relatives and other family members. This included the family’s beloved camping RV, which Karis had truly loved and appreciated. Karis had spent her entire childhood traveling across the country in the RV with her family.
Micah explains to ABC News, “This was her dad’s prized possession. He bought this about three years before he passed away. That’s what he wanted to do with his family. He took them all over the country. They saw all the fun stuff like the Grand Canyon, they went on a four-week American tour to see all the landmarks. That’s the man he was. Most of Karis’ great childhood memories were with this camper.”
When Micah and Karis’s own children were old enough to go camping, Karis would often tell Micah that she would love to take them camping in the RV that she gerw up in. “She’s always talked about getting this camper back and taking our kids camping, and reliving some of those memories that she shared with her dad.” Karis tried to locate the camper’s location but was devastated when she couldn’t find it.
Unbeknownst to Karis, Micah had already spent two months, painstakingly tracking down her father’s beloved camping RV. He finally found it in California where Kathy Eiler and Patti Clarkson were the new owners. At first, they were hesitant to sell back the RV, but once they heard the entire story, it became an easy decision. Kathy had lost her father at the same age Karis lost hers. She could relate to her pain and grief.
“We had a holidays house fire. I know what it was like to have those memories … that was so meaningful to me. We had to do it. We had to let the camper go home.”
Micah told his wife that he was going to a bachelor party one weekend. Instead, he went out to California to meet the owners, and he brought the camper back to Arkansas. For Christmas that year – 15 years after her father’s death – Micah surprised Karis with her father’s beloved camping RV. Tears streamed down her face as she finally had the camping RV she had always wanted. It was a dream come true.
