I am one of those people that while I have used Instacart, I have only used it maybe a time or two.
One of those times was when my sister in law was recovering from surgery and needed groceries brought to her house.
The other time was when I had broken my foot and the surgeon told me to stay off my feet as much as possible for a couple of weeks.
The second I was medically cleared to go grocery shopping again (yes, it actually happened) I was back walking around the grocery store.
There’s something meditative about grocery shopping. It’s a collective routine that we all have to engage in from time to time.
Besides, if you end up buying the wrong thing, or you end up forgetting something that is your fault. You can always go back in and get the right thing.
If you get deliveries from Instacart, you run the risk of someone else getting the wrong thing, and getting that whole situation rectified might be as close to impossible as you can imagine.
And you have to somehow deal with the whole issue of a delivery person that thinks they deserve a bigger tip than you think they do and they’ll screw with your order.
Don’t believe me? Recently there was an Instacart driver who was delivering about fifty or sixty dollars worth of groceries to an elderly couple in Minnesota.
The driver pulled up to the house and saw a Back the Blue wreath. This complete lunatic did something I still can’t believe.
She pulled up near the house, wrote “F*** The Police” on the receipt and then took the bag the groceries were in and smashed them flat.
It’s one of the most infuriating things that I have ever seen. I mean, I worked as a pizza delivery guy when I was younger and I can’t imagine screwing with someone’s food like that just because of what amounts to a policy disagreement.
Thankfully, Instacart did the right thing and fired this driver and the police are investigating what charges that can be filed for such a hateful act against someone who just needed groceries delivered.
