Liberals all seem to think they’re so special that they don’t have to follow the rules. Megan Rapinoe is a perfect example.
Not content with keeping her anti-American, pro-queer personal views on social media where they belong, she has to hijack the playing field. That way, she can ham it up for the cameras.
Last week, the International Olympic Committee sternly warned that they won’t tolerate political protests at the upcoming Tokyo Games.
Screw that, Rapinoe mocks. She’ll do what she wants to do because after all, she’s “special.” Even though she hates the flag she plays under, she’s better than most at kicking a little white ball around. That makes her an expert on social issues.
Trying to keep her political views off the field is some sort of crime that the bigwigs in Brussels should be stomping on, Rapinoe believes.
“We will not be silenced,” a defiant Rapinoe posts. “So much being done about the protests. So little being done about what we are protesting about,” she tapped out to Instagram.
The comment was matched up with “a graphic showing fists raised through the interlocking rings — under the crossed out words ‘kneeling, hand gestures, signs,'” AFP writes.
The Olympic Committee is just trying to keep the focus on the games instead of making it into a political five-ring circus. “If this political neutrality is not respected, then the Olympic Games will divide, and not unite, the world,” IOC chief Thomas Bach said in last week’s statement.
“Athletes, coaches, trainers and officials are banned from political protests on the field of play, at the Olympic Village, during the opening and closing ceremonies and on the medal podium.” That doesn’t seem to be an unreasonable request. Athletes are still allowed to post whatever they want on social media to their heart’s content.
Anyone who violates the guidelines “will draw sanctions.” Two U.S. athletes were recently reprimanded by the Committee protesting on the medal podium at Lima, Peru’s Pan American Games.
Race Imboden, a Fencer, kneeled and hammer thrower Gwen Berry raised a fist. Both scored 12 months probation.
If Megan Rapinoe were to do such a protest, many conservatives would be thrilled to know she’ll subsequently sit it out on the sidelines for a whole year.
