A prep school math teacher in North Carolina was arrested for having inappropriate sexual contact with three underage male students, police said.
25-year-old Erin Elizabeth McAuliffe a former math teacher at Rocky Mount Preparatory School is accused of having sexual encounters with two 17-year-old male students and one 16-year-old male student. The alleged encounters reportedly happened off-campus.
McAuliffe taught math III, advanced functions, and pre-calculus, according to her resume. She also offered additional time with students through “after-school tutoring to help struggling students improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.”
In addition to eyeing underage boys and scoping them out for sex, she also worked to “develop alternate enrichment activities and modifications in student programs to increase student understanding.”
McAuliffe wrote on Linkedin, “Experienced High School Mathematics Teacher with a demonstrated history of working in the education management industry. Skilled in Microsoft Word, Sales, Retail, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Customer Satisfaction.”
Rocky Mount Prep officials had removed McAuliffe from the classroom on May 4. They officially sacked her on May 8.
According to Rocky Mount police, investigators interviewed numerous staff members and students before arresting McAuliffe on June 8. The arrest came a little over a month after she was fired from the school and escorted from campus.
Two of the male high schoolers endured sex trauma with McAuliffe, according to police. Investigators say they talked with several students and teachers over an unspecified period of time before arresting the 25-year-old teacher.
“We have fully cooperated with police on this matter and she is no longer an employee of the school,” Todd Pipkin, the school principal, told the Telegram.
McAuliffe’s career as a teacher was brief. She began her stint at Rocky Mount Preparatory School in the fall of 2016. It’s not clear if she had been employed as a teacher before that.
The Daily Mail was able to hunt down some of McAuliffe’s social media posts, which now appear to be removed. The posts appear to indicate that she is single and lives in town with a cat and a dog, the British tabloid reported.
“I was really surprised,” parent Felicia Russel said. “I thought that women teachers were getting smarter and better.”
“It’s very shocking and appalling that a person would do that with a student,” former student Dayvon Steel said.
The defrocked teacher now faces a trio of counts of sexual activity with a student as well as a single count of indecent liberties with a minor
McAuliffe posted a $20,000 bond after her arrest. The four charges carry a combined maximum total of five years in prison.
