They Were Born Years Apart, But Somehow They’re Twins…

Born years apart, Sarah Sargent and her brother, Will Sargent thought they had been simply regular siblings, however, they’re greater than that — they’re twins.

At first, the story sounds like a riddle, but when Sarah explained everything about how she was born almost two years after her twin brother, things then make sense.

Despite an 18-month age gap, Australian natives Sarah, 18, and her brother Will, 20, are actually fraternal twins, according to a viral TikTok video that now has 9 million views.

In the video, Sarah addresses people’s confusion when she says that she and her brother are twins. In the caption, she wrote, “My parents ‘forgot to tell me’ apparently.”

They were conceived in the same batch of embryos on the same day through in-vitro fertilization, but Sarah’s embryo was stored in a freezer for nearly two years before implantation

“My brother is two years old than me and yes, we are twins because we were born through IVF and we were formed in the same womb,” Sarah explained.

She continued, “One of these embryos went full term, and that’s when my brother was born. The other embryos are frozen so that they are available for implantation in the future. I was one of these embryos, and I was defrosted and implanted around 12 months after my twin brother Will was born, in January 2001.”

“I was born in October 2002, 21 months later,” she said on TikTok. “We are twins because we were formed in the same womb”

But rather than carrying both her and her brother at the same time, Sarah said that during the process,“they took me out and put me in an IVF freezer as an embryo for two years. Had our embryos fertilized naturally, my brother and I would have been non-identical twins born at the same time.”

At this point, Sarah was still an embryo rather than a developing fetus, and while her twin brother was implanted into her mother’s womb first as the most viable embryo, her chances of actually being born were apparently quite slim.

“As my parents explained it to me I was the fourth most viable embryo,” Sarah recalled, “apparently the chances of me actually working were quite low.”

“While I knew my parents had IVF to conceive, I had no idea that we were biologically twins. I found this out when I was 16. My dad was driving me to school, and I was saying that I was convinced I was adopted because I thought that I looked and acted differently than everyone else in my family, especially my brother. He then said, ‘well, I know for a fact you aren’t adopted because Will is your twin brother.’”

“Naturally, I presumed he was joking and said that it would be impossible because I’m two years younger. That’s when he explained the full story to me. I was pretty confused about us being twins. When my dad explained that I was in the freezer for two years, I honestly couldn’t believe it, ” Sarah continued.

“That was the craziest part of the whole story for me.”

Incredibly, Sarah’s parents ‘forgot’ to mention this minor detail about her relationship with her brother until she was sixteen, and as the clip she posted of her finding out proves, it was more than a little bit of a shock.
