A vegan woman filed a lawsuit against her neighbors and now, a cookout has been planned by the Facebook community in her honor.
Cilla Carden made headlines for her legal battle, wherein she claimed the odors from her neighbors’ barbecues had destroyed her quality of life. Carden, who works as a massage therapist, said her neighbors were deliberately interrupting her garden time by barbecuing meat, smoking outdoors, and letting their kids play basketball with only a tall, metal fence separating their backyards.
For Carden, veganism is a way of life, but not just for herself. This health enthusiast has spent the better part of a year enforcing strict directives on those unfortunate enough to live next door to her. Astonishingly, the requirements include no smoking, child’s play, or barbecuing outdoors. Whoever breaks the rules and could end up in a costly, lengthy legal suit.
Carden filed a lawsuit against the family, taking them from the State Administrative Tribunal all the way to the Supreme Court. She proceeded to file a 600-page document detailing her appeal. According to 9News, Carden argued that her neighbors were only barbecuing in order to purposefully upset her, polluting her air with the smell of fish. She also argued in court that the families on both sides of her house “deliberately” smoke cigarettes, grill meat, and let their children play loudly with basketballs outdoors for her to suffer.
Carden said:
“They’ve put it there so I smell fish, all I can smell is fish. I can’t enjoy my backyard, I can’t go out there. It’s been devastating, it’s been turmoil, it’s been unrest, I haven’t been able to sleep,” she said. “It’s deliberate, that’s what I told the courts, its deliberate.”

Luckily, the court saw through Carden’s senseless and oppressive suit, dismissing her claim to punish her neighbors.
Because of Carden’s indiscreet interviews, in which she demonized her neighbors and their children, word spread immediately about her frivolous lawsuit. The neighborhood then grew incensed at the vegan activist, deciding to send her an unmistakable message.
According to Blue Lives Matter, in honor of the sue-happy vegan, nearly 9000 people announced that they would be willing to attend a community-wide barbecue outside of Carden’s home. Before Facebook was suddenly removed, more than 4,000 people responded that they will help organize a “Community BBQ for Cilla Carden,” which would take place just outside of the guest of honor’s property. However, the event guidelines stipulated that the cookout was to remain within legal boundaries at all times.
The Facebook event page stated:
“THIS IS A PEACEFUL PROTEST, Nobody is permitted to enter Mrs Cardens property. There will be wardens on hand to make sure this does not happen. Instead the front yards of participating neighbours will be available for use, food trucks will be parked in participating neighbours driveways, throughout the street.”
Carden promised never to stop until she gets her way even though she has repeatedly lost her lawsuits and her right to appeal. Unfortunately, these threats have her neighbors’ everyday lives a guessing game of whether they will upset Carden and cause another lawsuit.
